Prisoner wearing leg shackle escapes from police custody at hospital in West Village

WEST VILLAGE, Manhattan (WPIX) — Police are looking for a prisoner who escaped custody from a hospital in West Village late Thursday afternoon.

Police say the prisoner bolted from the emergency room at Lenox Hill Health Plex on Seventh Avenue around 3:30 p.m.

The man, identified as 31-year-old Daniel Ortiz, escaped wearing a leg shackle on one leg, police say.

Ortiz is described as having a light complexion, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, 130 pounds, with brown eyes and brown curly hair.

He was last seen wearing a dark colored pea coat, dark blue jeans, chocolate boots, no shirt, leg shackles, attached to one side, and tucked inside of his boot and possibly bleeding from the wrist.

He is walking with a noticeable limp.
