High school students give 8-year-old suffering from genetic disease incredible surprise

LOOMIS (KTXL) — Eight-year-old Calvin Grisham jumped for joy Friday as the Make-A-Wish foundation sends him and his family to Disneyland for free.

Friday was not about MRI’s, tumors or his illness, it was about making this little boy happy. The students at Del Oro High School’s Make-A-Wish club raised $10,000 to help this little boy smile.

The club planned an entire assembly as a decoy for the big surprise. They told Calvin it was all about honoring heroes. Calvin just didn’t know he was the only hero being honored.

Rocklin firefighters and Placer County sheriff’s deputies gave Calvin a special badge and a miniature ATV decked out with with lights and logos. At the end of the surprise, the students chanted Calvin’s name as he rode away from the school in a fire truck.

Calvin suffers from Neurofibromatosis a genetic disease he shares with his father and sister. He suffers from brain and heart tumors that cause him headaches, delayed speech and behavior problems. Friday’s celebration took Calvin away from his daily battles into a place where he didn’t even think about his struggles.
