How to let your shoulders do all the talking
If there is one important thing we learned this season, it is that shoulders are the next big accessory.

With all the attention that’s been given to bare shoulders and exposed clavicles, many designers- we saw everything from ‘s athletic take on cold shoulder confections to an uber chic satin option that was featured in the fall collection- are looking at off-the-shoulder pieces to add an element of intrigue and sex appeal to our wardrobe.
Think of the bare shoulder as a sophisticated replacement for the underboob (praise be for all of us who aren’t looking to be the sixth Kardashian sister), or a throwback to a time when all it took was a milkshake well-maintained décolletage to bring all the boys running to the yard. This emphasis on the shoulder is probably why statement earrings and chokers have made a huge comeback, and why we are seeing so many variations on the neckline this year.
Spring and summer brought a lot more exposure, with fall and winter debuting more buttoned-up versions of this trend, and even interesting outerwear options boasting it as well. Balenciaga’s modern, shoulder showing trench coat and puffer jacket showed us the trend’s versatility. However, it was the plethora of sweaters and heavier blouses with cold shoulder accents, cut outs and even one shoulder constructions that truly carried this trend seamlessly into fall.
