See Savings When Buying Glasses Online

According to a recent study by Consumer Reports, buying your glasses online can save you up to 40 percent off brick-and-mortar store prices. The options may seem overwhelming, but finding a good pair isn’t as hard as you think. Here are a few tips on how to buy your specs online without losing sight of your budget.

First, look for a vendor that carries a wide variety of frames to choose from. Some online stores, like Coastal, Zenni Optical and FramesDirect, even have a “virtual try-on” feature that allows you to upload a photo of your face to see how each design will look on you.

Next, check to see if the retailer carries your lens type. Do they accept single-vision, progressive, bifocal and trifocal prescriptions? The lens material is important, too. While the names may sound complicated, their functions are simple. Knowing your options will help you find the best one to suit your needs.

And while it’s good to have a few options, don’t get too carried away with unnecessary add-ons that will drive up your costs. Some online retailers will try to lure you in with extremely low prices, only to upsell you on features like anti-scratch and anti-reflective coating.

Lastly, don’t forget to check the store’s shipping and return policy. A lot of sites have a turnaround time anywhere between one to three weeks. If you need your frames faster, check to see if they offer overnight or expedited shipping.

So pull out your prescription and get your new glasses — without even leaving the house. Not only will you improve your vision, you’ll see more savings too.
